The environment is the greatest teacher. The environment around us gives us many lessons for life. Sometimes, signals from the environment help you to make the most precise decision for solving life problems. All you need to do is observe and understand the positive signals presented by the environment around you.

Due to quarantine, I have been observing many things around me. I have been observant of my two cats (namely Ram and Lakhan) for a few months and noticed something powerful. I related my cats with human beings and found out the various cat-characteristics that can help us (human) to be authentic.

Also, the fact that cats are 90% genetically similar to human beings strengthen my points. So, without further ado, these are the 7 cat-characteristics that will make you authentic:

Ignore

If you have ever pet a cat, you pretty much know how much they ignore you. Not all the time but a lot of time. Even I become the victim several times. My cats, they simply ignore what they don't like and just do what makes them happy. Many people fail in their life because they miss out on this. They care a lot about what other people are going to think or say.

As a result, your job never gets done.

Likewise, ignoring everyone is not what I mean with 'Ignore'. Trusting a few opinions is fine. But ignore the negative opinions, especially the opinions that lose your value and demote you. These are the opinions that are the major barrier to your success. Love yourself, do things you like & learn to ignore. You will be successful.

Stay well-groomed

This characteristic of cats is also the reason why many people chose cats over dogs. They don't physically take a bath but they do maintain their hygiene with the help of their tongue, forepaws and teeth. Licking themselves, using their teeth to dig out nasty debris, moistening their forepaws and cleaning their body is what they are seen doing often. Thus, they are also reflected as the epitome of hygiene.

If cats are doing this then what is stopping you? Being well-groomed is a sign of authenticity. I may be wrong when I say 'Looks matter!'. But to develop a good first impression, people are often judgemental about how you look. So smell good, make your hair, trim your nails, follow a skincare routine, and do everything to maintain your hygiene.

Take control of your life

Ever noticed how cats are not controlled by anyone? They are so because cats speak for themselves and they don't seek approval to do a thing. When they are not comfortable being around, they leave. When they want food, they meow and seek attention by disturbing humans. If nothing works, they prefer to go somewhere else. They are their own boss and under control of themselves.

Similarly, don't let others control you as well. Practice saying NO and do things that scare you. Simply, do what makes you happy. Also, learn to control your emotions. You should accept that social media is a virtual world and you should never compare yourself with someone else. Because you are perfect the way you are and your flaws define the real you.

Chill!

Live in the moment and learn to chill. Worrying about everything can be painful for your mental health. So, find happiness in various things and be happy. Like a cat. People often feel dissatisfied about how they are and become the victim of mental illness. Of course, cats have feelings like jealousy and sadness but the worse is not observed with them.

Everything that happens should be taken as an experience. So, don't worry and be optimistic about your life. This is essential because you need to ease quite often and let go of emotions like sadness, depression & mental tiredness. If you are struggling too much, consider the proverb 'Fake it till you make it'. Pretending to be happy will help you become happy a lot of times.

Learning new things is also proven to make you happy. It can be starting a new book or practicing a musical instrument.

Be cautious

Cats sleep about 15 hours a day but they are still attentive. They are very reactive when they hear a sudden dropping of an object, their prey being around or they being the prey of someone. One midnight, a stranger cat came to the place where my two cats were sleeping. They noticed it immediately, meowed loudly, and unitedly chased the stranger cat. Pretty surprising, right?

So, you should also notice your environment and stay aware of it. As told earlier, the positive signals from your environment can help you to make the best decisions. Furthermore, being aware of what is around you and reactive towards it will help you become great. Observe and react. Observe the people who need your help and help them. Observe the toxic/negative people and spend less time with them.

Choose your environment wisely

One of my cats spends a lot of time with me. He also loves my company. He knows that he is safe with me and this human (me) will not be injurious to him. Similarly, the example of not letting the stranger cat be a part of the cat's company also shows how cats choose their surrounding. They are not afraid to show who they like and who they don't.

There is no argument in the point that the cats are dreamers. Not because they sleep that many hours but they are often busy thinking and doing various activities in their sleep. It may be about their hunts or YOU.

No one can stop you from dreaming and making it happen if you are courageous enough. So, dream about the things that you are passionate about. Not just when you are asleep but also when you are awake. Then, take action and be consistent with your work. Nothing is more authentic than being passionate and driven. So, put it all in the work.
